SF Movie Event - Bustin' Down The Door!!
Meet the Legend Shawn Tomson WED 7 PM
via Brian Museal, WaveFest
Hello friends, wanted to pass along the "NOW PLAYING" news of a surf film at the Bridge theater. It's a limited engagement, so act now before you miss out!
The big news is that surf legend Shaun Tomson, a producer of the film, will introduce the 7pm showing this Weds, August 6th. He'll be there to intro the film, and will stick around for a little Q&A after the film.
I just saw it over the weekend, and like bio films before it (Riding Giants, Dogtown & Z-Boys) the film is a thorough breakdown of the advent of competitive surfing in Hawaii, and the 4 surfers who really kickstarted that whole tour - Shaun Tomson, Rabbit Bartholomew, Ian Cairns, and Mark "Wounded Seagull" Richards. The footage is outstanding, interviews solid, music great, and it's a cool little film to learn more about this pivotal era.
I encourage you to check out this film playing through Thursday at the Bridge Theater in SF. Details below.

During the winter of 1975 in Hawaii, surfing was shaken to its core. A group of young surfers from Australia and South Africa sacrificed everything and put it all on the line to create a sport, a culture, and an industry that is today worth billions of dollars and has captured the imagination of the world. With a radical new approach and a brash colonial attitude, these surfers crashed headlong into a culture that was not ready for revolution. This is their exciting story, told through the eyes and words and stunning film footage of those who lived it. Featuring Wayne Bartholomew, Ian Cairns, Tom Curren, Mark Richards, Kelly Slater, Shaun Tomson and Peter Townend. Narrated by Edward Norton. Directed by Jeremy Gosch.
