RE: A Survey: How is the Gas Price Affecting Your Surfing? |

Hi Craig/Cynthia - I'm definitely going to check out the Mini - they look so fun! And would definitely get the dealer recommended hard racks for it. I think my concern is whether there would be too much board and not enough car to safely carry the board. Oddly, I've known two people who have had the front rack actually pulled off their car due to the wind force pushing up on the board - the straps didn't give, but the rack just came off the car. Granted one of them was driving a porsche (ridiculous I know) but the other was a honda, and they both had the racks professionally installed. As for my Subaru - it's an Impreza. It fits my 9'6 board with both back seats and the passenger side seat down. It doesn't allow for a passenger - except for my dog. It can, however, take that 9'6 board and a short board on top of it without too much problem. I can also fit my 9'2 with only one of the backseats down so I can transport a passenger when I carry that board. But I also have racks so it's not an issue. I suspect that the Forrester can take the 9'6 and at least one passenger in it. You might have to lay both seats down first, put the board in and then put the smaller backseat up by slightly adjusting the board - that's what I have to do in my Subaru right now for the 9'2. Cynthia - where did you go to get your Mini? Did you like the place? I'm always wary of car dealerships - well, car salesmen more than anything. So if you had a good experience - let me know! Thanks - Jenn |
