Pacifica Surf Camp is great for kids. I'm guessing your son is already signed up for summer camps, and the summer is winding down, but that would be a  good place to meet other parents and kids. They also do a surf camp during Spring Break.

My 8 year old has not shown more than a passing interest in surfing, but I have a feeling my 3 year old will, once she is old enough. There are plenty of kids who surf, though.

Not sure if you like beach vacations, but you could also look into a family vacation to a place, like Hawaii, San Diego, etc. where your kid could get lessons and maybe you could take lessons, too. Did you say whether you were a surfer or not?

Even though I am excited about the future possibilty of surfing with my kids, as a surfer I also know how unpredictable and sometimes dangerous the ocean can be, so you are doing the right thing by learning about the sport and monitoring his progress. Once he gets out of the splashing in the white water stage make he wears a helmet!

I sometimes take my friend's 10 year old surfing with me, so I will try and post when I know in advance if he is coming to the beach with me.

I also sometimes go in the water with him and wear my suit and some flippers and body surf -- since I'm not his mother I guess he's not embarrassed by that.

The best place to meet other surfers and surfing families might be at local contests, there are always tons of surfers and their families hanging around. Finding another surfing family with a kid the same age would be ideal.

If the levels are similar, maybe they could surf together one day despite the age difference?  My son will be entering 4th grade in PA after the summer. Read More...Go To Post

I am very excited to hear about my OB/SF surf buddy Jaimal's very first book, Saltwater Buddha: a surfer’s quest to find Zen on the sea. StokeMaster.COM's literary reviewer and a novel author Wendy Tokunaga will also be interviewing Jaimal in my upcoming WavLOG article. Jaimal says he is not sure how long Amazon will offer this deal so for those who want to save on summer reading or get a l... Read More...

Amazing Holiday Swells Not Given Up!
12/01/2008 7:27 AM

Amazing Holiday Swells Not Given Up! Oh what a holiday weekend this was. Many StokeMaster board members have enjoyed, and too some "got too much" fun on the NW long period swells that started around Thanksgiving day. In Half Moon Bay some spots that only fires a few times a year came alive and brought some super experts to these waves while it was almost impossible to paddle out in recreational breaks throughout San Mateo county. Instead of fizzling out the next set of swells have already arrived yesterday and we are still getting 14-sec... Read More...
